For New Patients

Welcome to our office! We want you to know that you are the most important person in our practice. This page is designed to let you know what to expect when you visit our office for the first time.

What to Bring with You

  • Eyewear: Please bring all glasses that you currently wear. If you are a contact lens wearer, wear the lenses to the office and bring with you all pertinent information regarding your current lens prescription.

  • Insurance Information: Remember to bring appropriate insurance information and ID cards. We need only a valid form for MESC, and a referral for all HMO insurances.

  • Patient Information Sheet: Click here to download the Patient Information Sheet. Please print it, thoroughly complete it and bring it with you.

  • A Current List of Medications and Allergies

NOTE: Patients under the age of 18 must have signed consent of a parent or legal guardian before they see the doctors.

The Eye Examination

The complete eye examination lasts between 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. and will consist of:

  • Discussion of your symptoms.
  • Measurement of your visual acuity.
  • Determination of glasses prescription.
  • Glaucoma testing.
  • Color vision testing.
  • Evaluation of depth-perception.
  • Evaluation of the external eye.
  • Dilation of the pupils.
  • Examination of the internal vessels and optic nerve.
  • Cataract evaluation
  • Peripheral vision screening

A Word About Eye Dilation

During the examination your eyes will be dilated. Dilating drops will cause enlargement of the pupils of the eyes. This greatly facilitates the examination of the inside of the eye. The drops also can cause difficulty focusing on near objects. The dilation lasts approximately four hours. Sunglasses are required to protect your eyes from glare when they are dilated. We will provide you with disposable dark sunglasses. If you have never had your eyes dilated, you may feel uncomfortable driving. If so, we recommend that you have someone drive you from your appointment.

Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses

We have a wide range of eyeglasses available in all price ranges. Most people find this easy and quite convenient. We suggest patients arrive 30 minutes before your appointment to allow enough time to select new glasses before your eyes are dilated. If you need contact lenses, we provide the lenses, accessories and all follow-up care. We carry all types of contact lenses, including gas-permeable lenses and disposable soft lenses. You may need several visits prior to contact lenses being ordered to ensure the best visual acuity and fit possible. In order to help us better serve you, please bring in your current contact lens records, box tops, and/or vials. The more information that we have can mean less return visits for you.

Fees

The fee for a complete eye examination is $170.00. If you currently wear contact lenses, there is an additional charge starting at $35. Please be sure to wear your contacts to the exams, and provide us with information of the manufacturer brand, power, and other parameters.

If you would like to be evaluated as a potential contact lens wearer there is an additional $50 charge. Note: This fee is separate from any other fees involved with the initial fitting and purchase of your lenses.
